Chris Mcdonough, the marketing director at Homebase, is leaving the business after an apparent boardroom cull by new Australian owners Wesfarmers.

Mcdonough joined the business at the end of last year after leaving his role as Asda's UK marketing director, amid a shake-up of the supermarket's team in January 2015. He was previously managing director at Molson Coors, marketing director at Muller and has also worked for Mars.

Wesfarmers had previously said it wanted to build a management team bringing together both the Bunnings and Homebase teams. However, it is thought that the whole senior executive team at Homebase has been culled. Multiple sources confirmed Mcdonough's exit to Marketing.

Bunnings UK and Ireland will now be headed up by Peter (PJ) Davis as managing director. Davis was formerly chief operating officer for Bunnings. Another senior Bunnings employee, Rodney Boys, becomes finance director.

No other details have been released about other senior roles, including that of the position of marketing director.

In a statement Wesfarmers said: "Following completion, a new management structure will be put in place at Bunnings to drive continued strong performance in the existing operations and effectively implement the Homebase acquisition plans."

The £340m deal to acquire Homebase formally went through on Monday (29 February). Wesfarmers will be trialling pilots for its Bunnings warehouses across the UK. Once it has the concept correct it will refurbish existing Homebase stores and will look to add new stores across the Bunnings Warehouse network.

Wesfarmers is one of the largest listed companies in Australia. Its owns a range of diverse business operations including Coles supermarkets and department stores including K-Mart and Target.
