The initiative is designed to showcase the expertise of specialist "qualified to advise" staff who have an A-Level equivalent qualification in health products and supplements.

Staff have been trained at the Holland & Barrett Natural Health Academy, which is a Government-backed training scheme.

The 'Ask Us Anything' promotion will start tomorrow and run for a month, with TV activity and in-store marketing raising awareness of the promotion.

It comes as Holland & Barrett moves away from its long-standing ad strategy after  in order to launch animated TV spots focused on a "in pursuit of health and happiness" positioning.

Lysa Hardy, who  at Holland & Barrett parent company NBTY last year, claims the retailer is confident staff "can answer any questions relating to products sold in-store", as it seeks to establish itself as a place where people can go to receive "quality health advice they can trust".

Customers will be offered the 20% discount at the till if staff fail to answer the questions, with discounts also being offered on top of "buy one get one half-price" promotions.
