
The entrepeneurs are part of a group backing TweetDeck, an interface that bills itself as 'air traffic control for Twitter', lets users organise their messages by viewing them in columns and updates peoples' status on Twitter and Facebook.
The service was founded by Iain Dodsworth, a London-based developer in summer 2008. TweetDeck is thought to be the platform of choice for millions of Twitter users and is estimated to account for more than 10 per cent of all tweets.
TweetDeck is seen by some as the 'browser for the live web' and as 'live' services such as Twitter continue to gain popularity, TweetDeck is expected to enjoy simultaneous success.
Hoberman and Birch are part of an investment group called PROfounders Capital which hopes to raise £50m to invest in internet start-ups.
