Hilfiger readies True Star fragrance debut with Beyonce

LONDON - Tommy Hilfiger is launching True Star, a fragrance endorsed by pop star Beyonce Knowles. The perfume will be backed by a TV campaign featuring the singer performing a special a capella version of 'Wishing on a Star'.

The commercial, which breaks on October 2, will be the highlight of a multimedia campaign also including ads in the November issues of magazines such as Glamour, Elle, Vogue and FHM, and outdoor executions.

The Top Shop fashion chain and MTV are also linking up with Tommy Hilfiger to support the launch with an MTV tour of Top Shop stores. MTV DJs will host the events, and shoppers will be offered the chance to meet Beyoncé when she comes to the UK next year. The tour begins at Top Shop's flagship store in London's Oxford Circus on 2 October.

The campaign has been planned and bought by Manning Gottlieb OMD division, M2M. Beyonce is reportedly being paid £2.5m to be the face of the perfume.

Separately, it has been confirmed this week that Wimbledon ladies' champion Maria Sharapova is to launch her own perfume, which will be marketed globally.

The exclusive license agreement with Parlux Fragrances will see the creation of a signature fragrance by the end of 2005.
