Highbury title to exploit interest in international cricket

LONDON – Highbury Lifestyle is launching a world cricket monthly called Spin on February 17 with a launch price of £1.50.

The magazine is intended to capitalise on the current interest in cricket and revolutionise coverage in the spirit of Channel 4 and Sky. It has got the exclusive use in print of TV's Hawkeye graphics, and will explain tactics and techniques.

Contributors include Pakistani MP and former captain Imran Khan and the first issue includes an interview with former England cricketer Phil Tufnell.

David Nizol, Highbury chief operating officer, said: "Spin will appeal to the growing number of fans from diverse backgrounds who are coming to cricket. And with our reputation for bold, cutting-edge editorial and great design, it will be an attractive option for the 12m people who enjoy cricket in the UK, as well as the advertisers who want to reach them."

The initial print run is 70,000 and Highbury is aiming to catch the market leader Wisden, which has a circulation of more than 30,000.

Duncan Steer, who was formerly editor of Channel 4's cricket magazine, said: "Spin is a fresh, modern magazine of the kind that followers of other sports have long taken for granted."

Highbury Lifestyle is part of Highbury House Communications, the subject of recent takeover speculation with a bid expected from rival publisher Future.
