Hello! website to extend celeb content to mark fifth birthday

LONDON - Celebrity gossip magazine Hello! is to extend its website content to include a weekly podcast and digital edition.

The celebrity magazine has also revealed the results of a reader internet shopping survey, to coincide with the 's fifth birthday, which found its readers to be big online spenders, with 92% having spent an average of £371 on the web in the last six months.

The survey found the average Hello! reader to be a young, working woman with an average disposable income of £33,000. Over 90% of Hello! readers use the internet at least once a day, with 40% logging on to the Hello website every day.

That service will extend with Hello!'s weekly podcasts, which the magazine says will "Give the lowdown on who's doing what, wearing what and stepping out with whom" in its trademark tittle-tattle style.

In addition, the site will include a digital edition of the magazine, combining its online delivery with the look and feel of the print edition.

The celebrity video news section, which in the past has shown clips of Hollywood stars and singers, will return as well.

The magazine has been working with Yahoo! and Ask.com to generate greater coherency for the text links within its news stories, which are designed to click through to corresponding reply pages on the Ask website.

Charlotte Stockting, publishing director at Hello!, said: "The results of the research are very encouraging. When we know our visitors love shopping, entertainment and gadgets, we know what will keep them coming back to the site and how better to serve our advertisers."

Hello! recently appointed Inside Entertainment's Christopher Loudon to edit its Canadian edition, which launches in August. The title is also published in Spain, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East and Greece.
