It was equalled by close rival Magic, the Bauer Radio station that scored a 6.1% share in the previous quarter.
Heart won the breakfast show battle between the two, with Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott attracting 893,000 to Neil Fox's 656,000.
Capital Radio's Johnny Vaughan and Denise van Outen held on to the breakfast crown with 943,000 listeners.
But while Capital's decline has now more or less bottomed out -- the station held third spot with a share of 4.6%, down from 4.7% -- sister GCap Media station Xfm is in freefall.
The indie rock station's share has halved in a year from 1.8% to 0.9%, with a startling drop since the last quarter of 2007 when it was 1.3%.
Its audience is now just 379,000, down 26% on the previous quarter and down 40% on a year ago.
While it could be argued that the station's young audience is getting its musical kicks from the internet, the figures for Kiss and Choice point to no lack of interest in radio.
Bauer-owned Kiss now has a share of 4.3%, up from 4.2% in the previous quarter and 3.9% a year ago. GCap-owned Choice is also up to 2%, from 1.7% in the previous quarter and 1.6% a year ago.
Fellow rock-focused station Virgin Radio lost share from 3.4% in the previous quarter to 3.3%.
The success story in this crop of Rajars is LBC, the talk station owned by Global Radio since its summer 2007 acquisition of Chrysalis, which is up to fourth place amid London's commercial stations.
LBC's share is up over one quarter from 3.8% to 4.5% and its reach is up 9% to 701,000.
GMG Radio's Smooth station climbed above the 500,000 listener mark, up 9% to 518,000, but is struggling to make an impact with its share down from 1.7% to 1.6%.
