HBOS awards Experian £40m credit reference account

LONDON - HBOS, the UK's largest provider of mortgage and savings products, has handed Experian a five-year contract worth more than £40m to be the prime provider of consumer and business credit referencing and fraud prevention services.

Experian will provide risk management services for HBOS Group's major UK businesses, including Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Birmingham Midshires, which between them have more than 22m customers.

The contract offering incorporates third-party data-compliant credit bureau information, predictive scoring solutions, an automatic application processing system for its business banking division, authentication and fraud prevention tools including Detect, Experian's anti-fraud system, and a wide range of marketing solutions including lifestyle data and National Canvasse -- a comprehensive direct marketing database of UK consumers.

David Walkden, head of risk at HBOS Retail, said: "Experian is well placed to provide a complete end-to-end combination of solutions to meet a substantial portion of our needs right across the HBOS group. Experian will be supporting an extensive range of HBOS's business activities, including mortgages, personal lending, consumer and business banking, credit cards and current accounts. We have every confidence in committing to such a long-term relationship and investment in Experian as one of our prime suppliers."
