Both parties said they mutually agreed that the quarterly title's niche market readers would receive greater benefit from the attention of a smaller, design-oriented company.
will now be managed through Eye Magazine, a new company established by Walters with Simon Esterson, Eye's art director, and Hannah Tyson, business director at Esterson Associates.
Both Esterson and Tyson were involved in the launch of Eye magazine in 1990.
The new management team comprises: Walters, editor since 1999; Esterson, art director since 2005; Tyson, managing director; and Vicky McDougall, commercial manager at Eye since 2006, who has been promoted to publisher.
Walters said: "This is a great moment for Eye, its readers and the designers and design writers who contribute to the publication worldwide. I have learned a lot from my time at , and we have a fantastic team to spearhead the new company, both commercially and creatively."
Rufus Olins, managing director of Haymarket Brand Media, said: "We have very much enjoyed working with the Eye team whose attention to detail and quality is second to none and we wish them all the best with their new venture."
The spring issue, , is out this weekend and is the first edition to be published under the new owners.
