Haymarket profits up 22% as overseas business grows

LONDON - Haymarket Group, publisher of ±±¾©Èü³µpk10, Marketing and Brand Republic, reported a rise of 22% in pre-tax profits to £24.9m last year.

The company said the figure rose from £20.4m in 2001, on the back of turnover of £172.3m, up by 6.8% on the previous year's figure. Despite tight pressures in several publishing areas, including medical, marketing and PR, Haymarket said that it was cautiously confident that profits for 2003 would be well over £20m, and not short of the 2002 figure.

Haymarket chairman Lord Heseltine said that it was the first time that more than 25% of the company's turnover came from outside the UK.

"Our international growth strategy has been built on titles which already have a strong base in the UK, and which have a global appeal to our advertiser customers and the end readers.

"Titles such as Autocar, published in eight languages in nine countries; F1 Racing, which can lay claim to being the favourite in its sector with 21 international editions in 17 languages; and our consumer electronics titles What Hi Fi?, Sound & Vision, and Stuff, now available in 12 editions in 10 languages, have been central to our success."

He said that the exhibitions business was also growing, and for the first time visitors to UK events passed the 1m mark.

Haymarket has operations outside the UK in countries including the US, Germany, China, India, Hong Kong and Australia.
