According to reports, Havas is concentrating on internal candidates to fill the shoes of Alain de Pouzilhac, who resigned from the role last month after the French corporate raider Vincent Bollore successfully took four seats on the board of the company.
Several likely candidates have emerged, including: the chief executive of Euro RSCG in New York, David Jones; Mercedes Erra, the president of its BETC Euro RSCG subsidiary; and the head of the holding company's PR interests, Stephane Fouks.
In an interview, Richard Colker, who is running Havas in the interim, said that he was a big fan of internal promotion.
"There are a lot of very talented people here and it is appropriate to continue to rely on them," he said.
Dru's decision to stay on at TBWA was a shock to the advertising industry. He had been spotted lunching with Omnicom chief executive John Wren during the Cannes advertising festival, in a meeting that many assumed was being held so that Dru could negotiate his departure.
Instead, Wren persuaded Dru to stay at the company. Dru said that he had a "deep attachment" to TBWA.
