Harrods launches loyalty card to halt slide in customer numbers

LONDON - Harrods has launched a loyalty card scheme for customers who spend more than a certain amount of money at the store, in an attempt to halt a slide in customer numbers.

More than 13,000 customers are said to have already taken the offer to sign up to the scheme. Members of the programme are rewarded with a point for every £1 spent in its store.

Customers who collect the required amount of points will be offered rewards including a day out at a classic motor racing event, a chauffeur-driven trip to an exclusive jeweller and a personal team to plan and cook for a dinner party.

There is also the opportunity to get closer to Mohamed Al Fayed, the owner of Harrods. One reward is a visit to Al Fayed's Balnagon estate in Ross-shire to enjoy fishing, walking and shooting, and a stay at one its cottages.

However, it is not yet clear how many points a customer needs in order to win one of the prizes.
