The sponsorship deal includes coverage on the Sky News channel, its interactive TV service Sky News Active, its Sky Text and on Sky's website.
Alex Harrison, head of sales and marketing at Halifax General Insurance, said: "This is an exciting profile-building campaign for us, which will put the Halifax brand and our range of insurance products top-of-mind among a large audience."
The sponsorship will promote Halifax General Insurance using a series of 7.5-second idents before and after Sky News weather broadcasts.
The spots, which break on April 11, feature Howard Brown, the animated star of Halifax's TV ads who is based on a real-life branch manager, in a series of weather-related insurance incidents.
Each ident closes with the Halifax brand message: "Always giving you extra."
Separate idents have been created for the motor, travel, home and pet insurance sectors that Halifax provides services across, plus a generic spot featuring all four. Each carry a phone number and Halifax will be monitoring call activity for each period.
A banner will be placed on Sky News Text and a permanent button will be on the Sky News weather website throughout the duration of the sponsorship.
A travel insurance-related ident will also be carried on the Sky Travel channel from April until the end of the year as part of the deal.
"The variety of the media provided by the deal with Sky News weather will, for the first time, generate awareness of our product offering among non-HBOS customers. What's also important is that the mechanisms we have put in place will drive direct telephone and online sales response," Harrison said.
Sky's weather reports are presented by Francis Wilson and Lisa Burke.
