Hachette poaches Emap's Brog as new editor of Sugar

LONDON – Hachette Filipacchi's Sugar magazine has poached the deputy editor of Emap's Bliss, Annabel Brog, to be its new editor.

Brog, who will take up the position on November 1, reports to Hachette's UK general manager Julie Harris. She takes over from Nick Chalmers, who is moving to work on a new magazine idea within Hachette Filipacchi's special projects division.

In her new role, Brog will be responsible for the magazine, as well as a relaunch planned for spring 2005.

Brog has worked at Bliss since January 2002, first as assistant editor features, rising to deputy editor, where alongside editor Helen Johnston she looked after the style section, design and features.

She also freelanced for Sunday Times Style, The Independent, Sunday

Express and magazines including She, FHM, B and More!

On her new appointment, Brog said: "Sugar has remained the number one-selling teen title in the face of immense competition from rejuvenated Bliss and CosmoGirl. Our aim now is to maintain that position in the market place, and increase the margin between Sugar and its rivals. It's a fantastic challenge and I'm incredibly excited."

Sugar remains the market leader in the teen sector. However, the gap is closing with competition from Bliss and The National Magazine Company's CosmoGirl.

In the latest set of ABCs, Sugar was slightly up by 1.1% to 295,009, but down 9.6% year on year, reflecting a troubled time for the teen sector as a whole.

Hachette has also confirmed that it is recruiting for the new position of publisher for Sugar.
