Guardian.co.uk continues to set the pace, breaking the 25-million barrier for the first time with 25,976,046.
Fuelled by its comprehensive coverage of the US president elections at the start of the month, and boosted by its hourly reporting on the unfolding "Sachsgate" drama involving the BBC's Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand at the end of the month, Guardian.co.uk's audience is now 74 times larger than its print circulation.
Emily Bell, director of digital content at Guardian News and Media, also noted that it is the first newspaper website in the UK to attract a record-breaking 10 million-plus UK users.
Elsewhere, daily reports on the financial crisis helped provide a bumper month throughout the sector. Second placed Telegraph.co.uk saw a modest hike of 1.15%, up from 22,945,934 in September to 23,208,902.
The best monthly increase was recorded by DMGT's MailOnline, which broke the "Sachsgate" story, up 18.32% month on month, to 21,192,062, leapfrogging Times.co.uk.
News International's website for The Times had the smallest monthly increase of 0.74%, but at 20,474,001 its six-month average is up nearly 65%.
The Times' tabloid stablemate Sun Online, which includes content from News of The World, was up 8.5%, to 17,127,539.
October also saw a reversal of fortunes for the Mirror Group, which includes Mirror.co.uk, SundayMirror.co.uk and People.co.uk, making up for its 6% fall in September to post a 10.9% lift to 5,832,594.
Meanwhile, The Independent's website, which includes content from Independent on Sunday, celebrated its first half year of public auditing with a 5% increase in monthly users, to 8,408,910.
It represents the strongest month yet for Independent.co.uk and follows the sector's biggest monthly rise of 20.6% in September.
