The publisher has followed The Times in adopting a wide and long format for its homepage to showcase a broad range of content and allow for more pictures and colour.
The top part of the site, guardian.co.uk, now features breaking news, accompanied by an image of the day that links to a separate multimedia section, featuring video interviews.
Below this are links to other sections of the site, including blogs, sport, business and arts & entertainment, which are now more picture-led, with further pictures flagging up miscellaneous content running down the side.
The look is modelled on the Guardian's travel site, travel.guardian.co.uk and is expected to be used for other sections, which are currently unchanged.
