In his new role, Wing will be responsible for accelerating the growth of GNM's mobile, tablet and e-Reader business, which have grown in significance since the publisher unveiled its "digital-first" strategy last year.
Adam Freeman, executive director of Commercial at GNM, said: "It has been an incredible year for the Guardian on mobile, one that included the launch of our iPad edition and finished with record-breaking mobile traffic.
"Mobile is one of our fastest growing areas and our readers can now view and engage with our content on more platforms than ever before. Steve has played a critical role in our strategy to date and in his new role will focus on further expanding the Guardian's reach and revenues on mobile platforms."
Wing joined Guardian Unlimited as launch advertising manager in 1999 and set-up GNM’s first digital sales team.
In 2003 he was appointed to head of advertising strategy where he worked across all brands, and in 2007 joined the GNM Advertising Board as business development director responsible for identifying and growing new revenue streams. He has been in his current role since March 2010.
