The publisher is introducing the software, called Operative One, to run both its digital and print media businesses.

It means that advertisingoperations for Guardian.co.uk will for the first time run on the same software platform as The Guardian and Observer newspapers.

It will replace GNM's old systems and aimt o offer a more "holistic" view of the business, helping it run a more efficient billing system, client invoicing system, and offer it better access to campaign data.

Andy Beale, technology director at GNM, said: "While we had considered building a system internally, we like that Operative. One had best-practice functionality and capabilities built into the platform, enabling us to consolidate our print and digital business units."

It is not thought the introduction of the software will lead to job losses.
