The Guardian plans round-the-clock G24 'print' edition

LONDON - The Guardian is to launch a 24-hour downloadable-to-print edition called G24 later this summer, featuring Guardian Unlimited content, which will be updated every 15 minutes.

The newspaper said G24 is part of its commitment to building a new-media platform for readers that would appeal to the lunchtime and evening commuter markets, by offering a more flexible service that would discard traditional print deadlines.

The service will offer eight to 12 pages of A4 PDF news-streams from Guardian Unlimited's general, international, economics, sport and media news sectors, which will be sponsored by BT.

The Guardian, edited by Alan Rusbridger, has also announced the creation of a new Oracle-sponsored business podcast service, to be presented by Guardian columnist Guy Clapperton, which will offer interviews and practical advice from financial experts.

Rusbridger said: "G24 will be yet another way for Guardian readers to consume their paper. Increasingly, readers are demanding editorial content tailored to the time and place of their choosing, rather than to artificial deadlines dictated by old print production schedules."

The business news podcast service will begin on June 22, with two 10-minute 'Business Sense' segments available for the next month.

Sara Linfoot, sponsorship group head at Guardian Unlimited, said: "It is highly appropriate that [Oracle] are sponsoring our first ever business podcasts, which will enable busy business people to access information on the move through their MP3 player."

Last week, The Guardian announced it was to introduce a "news online first policy", for its international and business news content, making it the first UK newspaper to do so.

The newspaper said the decision would give "reporters and writers on the paper the opportunity to produce copy of greater scope outside of the limitations of the daily paper".

The Guardian's circulation was up 1.76% to 381,188 in the latest ABC figures.
