The appointment follows moves by Guardian News and Media to earn revenue from its global online readership. In December, GNM appointed former chief executive and publisher of The Washington Post's digital arm, Caroline Little, as chief executive of its North American operations. This followed the earlier launch of Guardian America.

Cameron Yuill, chief executive and founder of AdGent 007, claimed Guardian.co.uk had been attracting a significant quality global audience for several years. He said its audience presented a great opportunity for global advertisers, and for the paper to increase revenues.

Chris Pelekanou, sales director at GNM, said working with AdGent 007 would enhance the opportunity for advertisers to reach Guardian.co.uk’s global audience and bring revenue to the site more effectively.

Adgent 007 secured the non-UK online ad sales contract for Bauer Media, The Independent, regional publisher Johnston Press, and The Telegraph during 2008
