Guardian considers future of Technology supplement

LONDON - The Guardian is considering dropping its Thursday Technology supplement, according to Paidcontent.

which is owned by the Guardian, reports that the long-running section could go while the online part of it will continue -- possibly merging with MediaGuardian.co.uk.

The blog reports that the closure comes as the tech ad market continues to decline.

Guardian News & Media told Paidcontent: "We are reviewing our technology offering to readers and one idea is that we might merge the printed section with Media on a Monday -- this is still under consideration.

"We are, however, committed to expanding our technology coverage online to better meet the needs of the technology audience."

Last month it was reported that Guardian News & Media was planning to make up to 50 editorial staff redundant by the end of this year.

The publisher, in an email to staff, said: "These changes aren't just short-term measures to get us through this current financial downturn.

"They are also about preparing us for journalism in the 21st century, and helping to preserve GNM's journalism in what is a declining newspaper market and a time of great change and challenge for the media industry in general."
