Guardian and Burnett land D&AD blacks

The Guardian's redesign has won a prestigious black Pencil at this year's D&AD Awards.

It marks the first time a top award has been handed out in the Magazine and Newspaper Design category.

The only other black Pencil went to Leo Burnett Canada for its own website - also the first time one has been handed out in the Online category.

Leo Burnett London won the most yellow Pencils, with awards in the Viral, Direct and Digital Crafts groups for its "cameraphone" work for the Department of Transport.

A number of ad agencies picked up two yellow Pencils. Bartle Bogle Hegarty took one for Vodafone's "mayfly" in the TV and Cinema Crafts category and another in Radio for its ITV "killer Katy" ad. DDB London won awards in the Press Advertising group for Harvey Nichols "beans", "jigsaw", "cat" and "toilet paper" ads, while Fallon picked up prizes for Sony Bravia "balls" in the TV and Cinema Advertising category.

Mother won two yellow Pencils in the TV and Cinema Crafts category for Orange's "dance" and "blackout" spots.

Apple Computers also won two awards in Product Design for iPod Video and iPod Nano.
