Grey expands healthcare offering with UK acquisition

NEW YORK - Grey Global Group has expanded its healthcare operations with the acquisition of Darwin Medical Communications, a UK-based specialist in oncology media education and branding.

The agency will be rebranded as Grey Darwin and has been acquired by Grey Healthcare Group, an independent company of the Grey Global Group. Grey Healthcare already owns BrandEdge, a New York agency that specialises in branding, naming and developing logos for oncology (cancer treatment) products, and will work closely with Grey Darwin.

Ed Meyer, chairman and CEO of Grey Global Group, said: "The purchase of Darwin represents another strategic acquisition in a highly significant communications discipline. Grey Healthcare Group has identified oncology communications as one of the major growth areas for marketing communications. Darwin is one of the fastest growing companies in the field and we are thrilled to bring these two outstanding companies together."

Darwin Medical was founded in Oxfordshire in 1997 by Dr Stuart Smith, who specialises in oncology and haematology. The company founded the Global Organisation Against Leukaemia, a media society for publicising advances in leukaemia treatment.
