LONDON (Brand Republic) - Granada Media will close its internet entertainment portal and ISP G-wizz on Wednesday and is encouraging users to switch to BT.
Speculation that G-wizz, which Granada spent almost £10m on, was to close emerged in January. Granada will scrap the service in favour of ITV websites focusing on its leading entertainment brands such as Coronation Street.
The company is also abandoned its much-talked-about plans to deliver full web access via television.
In a statement on the G-wizz website, Granada said, 鈥淎lthough G-wizz will no longer exist as your gateway to the www and access to Granada''s portfolio of websites, Granada is committed to continue providing individual websites to support some of its most popular programmes, such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Popstars and This Morning.鈥
It added, 鈥淵ou can still visit these sites, simply by typing their individual URLs into your address bar.鈥
