Gorillaz Monkey King trailer wins Bafta award

LONDON - A trailer inspired by the Chinese folktale Monkey KIng, produced by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, last night picked up a Bafta award.

The ad, directed by the Gorillaz duo Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, took the award for best titles at last night’s Bafta Television Crafts Awards.

The animated film ran on the BBC to promote its coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. RKCR/Y&R's executive creative director, Damon Collins, said: "This has been a fantastic project from start to finish.

"To collaborate with Damon, Jamie and the BBC in creating the title sequence for a major event was quite an experience. The Bafta is the icing on an already spectacular cake."

The trailer was produced in association with BBC Sport, Zombie Flesh Eaters, Passion Pictures and Red Bee Media.
