
He will take up the newly created position, and join the executive board of directors, on 4 August. He will report to Virgin Radio sales director Nick Hewat.
Goldson previously oversaw Virgin Radio's sponsorship and promotions output, which accounts for 30% of the station's revenue.
Virgin Radio said the new board level status of the sponsorship and promotions role is a sign that TIML, backed by the Times of India, is increasing its focus on this revenue stream.
Clive Dickens, Virgin Radio chief operating officer, said: "Ultimately it's our belief going forward that commercial radio has to have a deeper relationship with clients in the area of branded content. We feel this is a large area of the business to keep on growing.
He added: "This is an extension of existing strategy, but by appointing Chris to the board in this role, we are pushing it on to the main structure of the business, as we see it as very important."
