After a vote put to the city’s residents in February, in which more than 21,000 people had their say, 62% wanted to keep the event in the park as opposed to moving it to a new location in the city centre.
The free music festival, which is organised by the city council on a budget of £450,000, has been held in the park for 15 years.
A spokesman for the council said that in the last year it has improved drainage, put a double track backstage to make it easier to move heavy equipment, and it has changed the stage to make it easier to bring onto the site.
This year’s headlining acts include Echo & The Bunnyman, Amelia Lily and Devlin. The council hopes to recoup around £130,000 from this weekend’s festival.
Councillor Lynnette Kelly, a cabinet member with responsibility for events, said: "As a council, we’re delighted to be able to put on another free Godiva Festival this year despite the really difficult economic circumstances most councils face at the moment.
"I attach real importance to the role events can play in the regeneration of our cities and our city centres and I hope people not only from the city but further afield will be visiting the city over the weekend. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us this year as I know thousands of people are doubly looking forward to this year following last year’s cancellation."
