The account is worth around £3m, but that figure is expected to rise by almost £1m with the launch of two further stations in the coming year. The review will be led by GMG Radio chief executive John Myers and group marketing manager Helen Dickinson, and is expected to be completed by the autumn.
GMG Radio has confirmed that Brilliant will be invited to repitch for the business.
Myers said the review was “normal procedure within our division”.
“Brilliant Media has done a great job for us over the past four years,” he said. “Normally, we’d have reviewed earlier than this, but we have been very happy with the service so far.
“It may well be that Brilliant win it back, but we have to make sure we’re getting the best deal.”
GMG Radio has 11 stations on air and two more preparing to launch, following its £60m acquisition of Saga Radio in 2006. Its Smooth network, created from the rebranded Saga stations, is being pitched as a commercial alternative to Radio 2.
