GM seeks shop to handle Chevrolet direct activity

The car manufacturer has approached several agencies regarding the business .

It is not known whether Draft FCB, which manages direct marketing for GM's Saab and Vauxhall marques, will pitch for the business.

The review is being managed by General Motors direct communications manager Matthew Young.

In January, GM appointed Lowe London to the £5m advertising account for Chevrolet following a competitive pitch involving Leo Burnett and Butterfield Morris Bushell.

Chevrolet launched in the UK in 2005, when GM rebadged its Daewoo brand.

Earlier this year, Chevrolet secured a tie-up with Paramount Pictures' blockbuster film Transformers.

The promotion saw 10 Chevrolet cars being given away with Transformers toys in Toys 'R' Us stores (Marketing, 4 July).

GM is the world's biggest car manufacturer. As well as Chevrolet, Saab and Vauxhall, it also owns Opel, Holden, Daewoo, Cadillac, Pontiac, Buick and Hummer.

General Motors cut its global adspend by nearly 25% in 2006 to $2.29bn, according to TNS Media.
