LONDON - General Motors has consolidated its £30m UK retail advertising account into McCann Birmingham.

The accounts, for the Vauxhall, Chevrolet and Saab brands, were previously handled by DLKW and Luton-based agency BMB. McCann Birmingham will begin working on the account in November.

Richard Hughes, head of retail marketing at GM, oversaw the review and said the car manufacturer was looking to cut down the number of agencies it works with: ‘It's  going to be a very busy time, so taking  a coordinated approach across the portfolio  with minimal overlap of marketing activities will lead to very  effective communications programmes.'

GM Europe, which is soon to be sold by its US parent company, recently appointed McCann Erickson Frankfurt to its £70m account to create the launch advertising for the new Astra model.
