Sony has teamed up with Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life aquarium in Auckland, New Zealand to showcase the durability of its waterproof camera - by training an octopus to take photographs.

Rambo the ‘octographer’ has been trained to take pictures of visitors from her tank using the Sony TX30 camera, which is waterproof and shockproof.

Sam Duncan, general manager, Sony New Zealand said: "The TX30 is a high-quality camera for underwater photography – it is shock, dust and water resistant and we wanted to show it off.

"We wanted to show that quality underwater photos could be taken by anybody because the TX30 is so easy to use. As unusual as it sounded at first, giving it to an octopus just seemed to make sense."

Mark Vette, animal trainer at the aquarium added: "When we first tried to get her to take a photo, it only took three attempts for her to understand the process, that's faster than a dog, actually it's faster than a human in some instances."

Octopuses are known to be highly intelligent sea-creatures and have been trained to open jars and solve problems in the past.

Visitors wishing to have a photo taken by Rambo will be charged a NZD $2 donation, which will go towards the aquarium’s conservation program.
