Gillette signs Jonny Wilkinson as UK brand ambassador

LONDON - England rugby star Jonny Wilkinson is joining other high-profile sportsmen in promoting the Gillette shaving brand.

Gillette signs Jonny Wilkinson as UK brand ambassador

Last year, Marketing revealed that Thierry Henry, Roger Federer and Tiger Woods were to replace footballer David Beckham as the global brand ambassadors for the male grooming brand. The Trio are currently appearing in a global TV ad campaign as The Gillette Champions. The 30-second ad, created by BBDO, promotes the Gillette Fusion Power razor.

Wilkinson has been arguably England's most marketable sportsman in recent years behind Beckham and has appeared alongside the LA Galaxy player in ads for Adidas. He is also a brand ambassador for Travelex  and men's clothing brand Hackett. Wilkinson is also a columnist and appears in ads for Times Media Group.

However, his brand appeared to be on the wane following an unfortunate run of injuries before a return to form over the past six-months saw the fly-half take England to a second consecutive World Cup final in October 2007.
