Boyle will relocate from London to Singapore in August to take up the newly created role.

He replaces Talbot, the Asia Pacific chief executive at the agency network, who is leaving the company to work on other projects in the region.

Boyle will focus on the company’s regional growth through brand extensions and acquisitions through its holding company Publicis Groupe, reporting to Steve King, the worldwide chief executive at ZenithOptimedia.

Boyle’s UK responsibilities will be transferred to Tim Hipperson, ZenithOptimedia’s new UK chief executive who joined in April from G2 Joshua. Hipperson will also report to Steve King.

No announcement has been made on whether Boyle’s global role as worldwide managing partner role will be replaced.

King said: "I am delighted to be able to announce this well-deserved promotion for Gerry Boyle. APAC is the most dynamic, exciting and challenging region and it is critical we have the right leadership to help the network and our clients succeed.

"Gerry has unrivalled talent and experience of driving effective product and strategic change, and I am certain that our business in APAC will see the benefit of Gerry's leadership skills."

Boyle joined the agency more than 14 years ago, becoming chief executive in 2006 and UK chairman at the start of this year when Hipperson was appointed as UK chief executive.
