George Lucas to guest star on The OC as Revenge of the Sith opens

LONDON – George Lucas is to make a guest appearance on Channel 4's hit drama 'The OC', appearing as himself as the final instalment of his 'Star Wars' saga opens at cinemas around the world.

Lucas will appear in the show as the sixth movie, and third in the cycle, 'Revenge of the Sith' opens. The episode will run on Thursday in the US on Fox and later this summer in the UK, appearing first on E4 and then on Channel 4.

In the episode, Lucas will take an interest in Seth Cohen's (Adam Brody) graphic novel, which is based on the adventures of a character styled on his girlfriend in the show, Summer, played by Rachel Bilson.

Josh Schwartz, the creator of 'The OC', told AP: "We were looking to take the 'Seth graphic novel' story line to its apex in this episode and it felt like the Holy Grail, the top of Everest, to have Seth come face to face with Lucas."

'Star Wars' is a recurring theme on 'The OC' with characters regularly using the movies as metaphors. In one episode involving a recently discovered father, the Luke Skywalker and relationship comes strongly into play.

Ryan: All right, look. Luke Skywalker was happy to find his dad, right? Even if he turned out to be Darth Vader.
Lindsay: And they fought each other with lightsabres until one of them died.

In another, it is the relationship between Luke and Princess Leia.

Zach: I get it. You're one of those couples. Joannie and Chachi, Luke and Leia.
Seth: Luke and Leia were brother and sister.
Zach: Yeah, well, may the Force be with you.

Things, however, do not go smoothly for Cohen in the episode where he meets his idol, as he faces an archetypal sitcom dilemma.

"Seth is faced with the universal quandary of 'Do I go to the prom, or do I go to meet George Lucas?'" Schwartz said.

'Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith' opens globally on May 19.
