Gay sex scenes given the chop from Footballers' Wives

LONDON - ITV has cut risque gay sex scenes from tonight's episode of 'Footballers' Wives' after network bosses claimed that the scenes were too explicit for broadcast even after the watershed.

The episode had originally shown Earls Park footballer Noah Alexander having sex with a male prostitute, which was then videoed by Tanya, played by actress Zoe Lucker. Production company Shed had hoped that the scenes would survive but ITV head of drama Nick Elliot thought they were inappropriate.

The move could be considered questionable because the show is well known for its raunchiness, including nude sex scenes, as well as tackling difficult issues such as hermaphroditism.

However the Daily Star, not known for its aversion to prurient content, described the gay romp as "filth" yesterday.

The scene will now "allude to" the sex act but it will not be shown.

The ITV show is regularly watched by 6m viewers.
