Footballers' Wives maker to produce ITV army drama

LONDON - Shed Productions, the independent production company behind ratings winner 'Footballers' Wives', has been commissioned to make a new series for ITV looking at the lives of men and women in the army.

The show has a working title of 'Bombshell' and will feature a cast of around 12 actors. It is due to air in January 2005.

Speaking to Broadcast magazine, Shed's managing director Brian Park said the show would look at all facets of modern army life. "There will be male and female recruits and all the personal and professional tensions," he said.

Creators of 'Footballers Wives', Ann McManus and Maureen Chadwick, are writing the first episode. Park is to be executive producer.

The will be one 90-minute opener show, followed by six one-hour episodes.

Shed Productions also makes the long-running drama 'Bad Girls', which is set in an all-female prison.

Last night's episode of 'Footballers' Wives', which featured a cameo from glamour model Jordan, was watched by an average of 6.6m viewers, representing a 29.5% market share.
