The agreement with HBO is based mainly on soft-porn content such as 'Pornucopia: Going Down in the Valley', and documentaries about murder, such as 'Autopsy' and 'The Iceman and the Psychiatrist'.
At the same time, FX announced a similar deal with Showtime, another US programme maker, to show programmes including the latest offering from the magicians Penn and Teller, called 'Penn & Teller: Bullshit!', and a 'South Park'-like animated show called 'Free for All'.
FX will not start broadcasting until the beginning of next year, but has already faced accusations that it will cannibalise the audience of Sky One -- both are part of News Corporation. However, the channel has hit back at these claims.
FX says it plans to show a mixture of new comedies and old favourites. Shows that will premiere on the network include 'Lucky', described as a dark comedy about a recovering gambling addict, and 'The Man Show', which takes a comedic look at more manly aspects of life.
Other shows featured will include 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', 'Angel' and 'The X Files'.
Jason Thorp, vice-president of broadcasting and marketing at Fox International Channels UK, said: "We have secured top-quality entertainment with a distinctly male appeal. FX UK will be launching with straight-talking upmarket shows from HBO and from Showtime that aim to target our core audience, 'adultman'. Men that are neither saints nor sinners will find something for them on the channel."
