The future's bright as bike finds freedom in Orange ad

LONDON - A lone bike moving quietly through the night looking for freedom highlights Orange Broadband's free broadband offer in its first campaign since it was rebranded from Wanadoo.

The "Ride" campaign, created by Fallon, breaks today with a TV spot followed by outdoor and national press.

The 30-second spot follows the story of a bike enjoying itself without restrictions after its owners and the neighbourhood have gone to sleep.

It moves through the night along quiet roads with its light on, eventually making its way to a car park to find a place to be free.

As the bike wanders on its path, the voiceover says: "It's great when you're free to enjoy yourself. That's why Orange is offering free broadband."

The spot is signed off with the long-standing Orange tagline "The future's bright. The future's Orange", which was reintroduced last year after being dropped in 2001 after seven years.

Print and outdoor campaign support the message of "broadband free to enjoy" and feature the bike from the TV ad, showing the effects of the bike riding through a puddle on pavement, fresh paint in a car park and tracks left in the grass.

Shot from above at dusk, the headline is painted on to the pavement or cut into the grass and the message becomes the focus of the image.

Orange is the first mobile phone company to offer broadband services and now its pay-monthly Orange mobile customers will get free wireless broadband.

TalkTalk, the fixed-line phone service from the Carphone Warehouse, has also unveiled a similar offer for customers who sign up to a fixed-line contract.

The art director on the spot is Micah Walker and the director is Dougal Wilson. Post-production is by The Moving Picture Company. Media buying was handled by Initiative.
