Future sells Polish operation to H Bauer

LONDON - UK media company Future Network announced today it has sold its Polish publishing arm Silver Shark to German publishing group H Bauer for £2m.

The deal sees Wydawnictwo H Bauer -- the Polish arm of the international publisher, which includes UK women's weeklies Bella, Take a Break and That's Life among its titles -- take over Polish computer gaming titles such as Kawaii.

Future has also agreed to an exclusive 10-year licensing deal with Bauer, allowing the German firm access to original licensed material featured in the titles CD Action, Action Plus and PC Format in Poland, which are also part of the deal.

Future, publisher of PC magazines and computer games titles, as well as the official Manchester United and Chelsea magazines, will use the money to help pay off its debt, which has dropped from £77.9m to around £20m since June 2001.

Future has been in financial trouble for the last 18 months after the launch of the PlayStation2 games console, for which Future publishes the official magazine, was seriously delayed.
