PSNext is being dubbed the first magazine for "PlayStation2.5", the unofficial term for the evolving PlayStation2 as Sony prepares for the spring launch of broadband gaming for the console.
As well as covering the latest PS2 games and technology, PSNext will also focus on the wider culture and lifestyle associated with PS2 in an effort to break new ground in the crowded games market.
Future has appointed Sam Richards, the former editor of Future Games' Official PlayStation2 Magazine, to edit the title and it will be designed by Terry Stokes, who has been shortlisted and highly commended by the PPA Digital while working on Future's Edge magazine.
Stokes will ensure that the design of the magazine, which will feature matt laminate cover stock and high-quality paper, is as contemporary and innovative as its content.
James Binns, PSNext publisher at Future, said: "Out of all the launches I have worked on, this is the one I am most looking forward to actually reading. We have put together a dream team of talent to create a great magazine. On the production side, we're going to invest the money other games magazines spend on covermounts on top quality print, paper and cover treatments. PSNext will really stand out on the newsstand."
PSNext launches on Thursday May 29 2003 with a cover price of 拢4. The first two issues will be bimonthly with the magazine set to go monthly in September.
The launch follows a shake-up at Official PlayStation2 Magazine, which saw the appointment of Stephen Pierce as editor-in-chief and Richard Keith as editor. Pierce and Keith replaced Richards.
Official PlayStation2 Magazine is the market leader with a circulation of 197,348, a 56.8% rise year-on-year in the most recent ABCs.
