Future hires digital expert and announces half year profits

LONDON - Special interest publisher Future has hired Seb Bishop, founder of Espotting Media, as a non-executive director, and announced interim results that see it back in profit.

The group's six month results show a profit before tax of £8.6m, compared to a loss of £1.6m for the first six months of the previous year. Its online advertising revenue was up 66% year-on-year.

Chief executive Stevie Spring, who has been in post for a year, claimed her "turnaround" strategy for the publisher was working.

"We have stabilised revenues and improved margins to fund investment for our future revenue streams," she added.

The company is focusing on cross-platform English language content for enthusiasts in areas such as film - a strategy unveiled last November.

Bishop, currently president and chief marketing officer of MIVA and chairman of search engine marketing agency Steak Media, will bring internet experience to Future's board.
