Future bets on son of Sudoku with December launch

LONDON – For 'everyone who has mastered Sudoku', Future's next magazine launch in December will up the ante with Kakuro, the latest Japanese number puzzle.

The company claims that Kakuro, a more challenging version of the puzzle that took the UK by storm this year, will be 2006's puzzling phenomenon. It is described as the number equivalent of a crosswords, with empty cells and numbered clues.

Justine Wall, publisher of Future's puzzle portfolio, said: "The word of mouth around Kakuro is steadily building and it is set to be the biggest challenge for puzzlers next year."

Total Kakuro goes on sale on December 15 with an initial print run of 50,000 and a cover price of £1.99.
