Clover, who joined the FT back in 1997, will take up his new post in early July.

Since September 2006 he has been working as the paper's analysis page editor.

His predecessor Buckley took up the position of Moscow bureau chief in January 2005.

Buckley joined the FT in 1991 and has held numerous positions since starting, including g four and a half years as a Brussels correspondent.

He will report to Jo Johnson, who is returning to London from New Delhi to become editor of the Lex column. Johnson has been the South Asia bureau chief since January 2005.

Earlier this week the FT was named Newspaper of the Year at the 2008 British Press Awards.
