LONDON (Brand Republic) - Freeserve is warning 700 of its users that they must cut down their unmetered internet use or face eviction from the service.
The Dixons-owned ISP said a “minority” of its customers are using the service for business purposes or for online gaming, with some staying online for more than 16 hours a day.
These customers will be informed this week that they must reduce their internet use, or they will be disconnected. Freeserve said their “abuse” of the system is causing problems for other users trying to log on.
Freeserve’s move comes soon after AltaVista had to abandon its unmetered access service because it was unviable. In July, Breathe.com also had to disconnect 500 of its users who were “over-using” its unmetered service.
Freeserve announced in September that it was increasing its network capacity by 25% in order to meet demand after customers reported problems connecting to the ISP’s service.
