It is hoped that the latest ads will be more of a hit with the public following the last campaign, which showed the Swedish-born football player alone in just pants, with many claiming that the ads were too homoerotic.
The latest campaign features Vodianova, who has been the face of Calvin Klein since spring 2003 and who also features in ads for the Calvin Klein Collection, CK Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Jeans, Calvin Klein Underwear and Calvin Klein Euphoria.
The shots were taken by Steven Klein at New York City's Sun Studios and show Vodianova lying provocatively on top of Ljungberg as both look straight into the camera.
It has been over a decade since a couple has featured in the Calvin Klein underwear campaigns, following the famous images of Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg, who modelled for the brand in 1992 and 1994.
The new print and outdoor campaign will launch in February and reach an estimated 98m people globally, spanning 21 countries.
It will then roll out in Europe and Asia in March and continue to be seen globally throughout the autumn.
The ads will feature in key sites worldwide including New York's Times Square and Los Angeles' Sunset Boulevard, as well as venues in Paris, Milan, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Sydney, Melbourne, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada and Mexico.
The Arsenal footballer Ljungberg has been the exclusive model for Calvin Klein Underwear for men since autumn 2003. He is pictured in the brand new men's line, Calvin Klein Pima Cotton.
Other names that have stripped down to their underwear for Calvin Klein include television's 'Tarzan' actor Travis Fimmel, 'The Bold and the Beautiful' actor Antonio Sabato Jr, and US Olympic pole-vaulter Tom Hintnaus, who was the first Calvin Klein underwear model in 1982.
