Event takes a look at four caterers that are embracing the trend towards interactive food experiences, from food stalls where guests can pick and choose, to events where chefs prepare meals in front of their eyes.

Rhubarb

Rhubarb offers an interactive dessert station, where sweet treats including apple and cinnamon streusels, grilled chocolate and orange fondants, and macaroons are laid out for guests to see. Chefs can add the finishing touches in front of guests, as well as include special effects such as dry ice, should the client wish.

The contents of the station can be tailored according to the venue and style of event, meanwhile the caterer also offers an ice cream-focused dessert station.

Create Food

The great British summer doesn’t need to end in September, with Create Food’s barbeque offering available for events ranging from outdoor parties to company conferences.

Chefs are able to barbeque food in front of attendees, with gourmet burgers, hot dogs, lamb and apricot burgers, Szechuan monkfish skewers and Brazilian meatball kebabs among the dishes available. The barbequed foods can be served alongside salads at food stations, enabling guests to pick and choose as they please.

Cuisson

London-based catering company Cuisson devises interactive experiences for events, ranging from private dining events to wine tastings, where staff serve and prepare dishes in front of guests. In many instances, guests are also invited to get involved in constructing the dishes.

One such example is the Sushi and Champagne dinner, where head chef Per Eriksson constructs a tuna tataki dish with soya jelly and black sesame in front of guests. Diners are then handed tweezers, enabling them to help plate up the dish, which is designed to complement Bollinger Rose.

Boulevard Events

Food stations that are themed around the cuisine of a particular nation or region are available at Boulevard Events. Event planners can choose from menus by chef Adam Neale that shine the spotlight on Italy, the Baltics, the Caribbean and Britain, among others.

The company prides itself on its ability to create bespoke menus for events; enabling organisers to deliver a menu that appeals to the clientele in an environment that focuses on food theatre, where attendees are able to interact with chefs as they prepare and serve up the cuisine.
