Four agencies shortlisted for £8m Bulmer's cider account

LONDON - Drinks firm HP Bulmer has shortlisted four agencies for its 拢8m advertising account, which includes its flagship Strongbow cider business.

The cider maker has shortlisted Delaney Lund Knox Warren, Leo Burnett, M&C Saatchi and TBWA/London, which is the incumbent agency on Strongbow.

The review was widened last month to include all of its cider brands and beer San Miguel. It had first intended only to review its Scrumpy Jack brand, which is also handled by TBWA, and Woodpecker, which is handled by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.

The review comes despite Scottish & Newcastle launching a 拢278m takeover bid for Bulmer. The deal will give it control of Bulmer's most important brand Strongbow, which boosted by strong Christmas sales climbed to number four in the January Nielsen table of top-selling alcoholic drinks.

TBWA/London was behind the long-running Johnny Vaughan campaign, which used the "Live to Loaf" tagline. The campaign was dropped last year in favour of new work demonstrating the lengths to which people go to work up a thirst. One execution shows two men in a cracker-eating competition who then reward themselves with a pint of Strongbow.

The review is being overseen by Bulmers' group marketing director Jon Eggleton.
