The FA is to organise fan-based festivals as part of its 2018 World Cup bid and has brought in former Visit London commercial director David Hornby to help plan events.

"I'll work on the bid three or four days a week. There's a huge amount of support being given and needed from the hotel and event community," said Hornby. "We'll be creating fan-fests, a bit like the experiential Innocent Village Fete, it'll need a lot of help from the event community."

The timelines for the bid are actually very quick, meaning Hornby's role could be finished by next May when documents will be handed to the world governing body of football FIFA.

Hornby is also working with O2 venue owner AEG.
