Ford and Vauxhall cut online car prices

LONDON (Brand Republic) – Ford and Vauxhall, the UK’s two largest car manufacturers, are offering discounts on cars bought online through their own websites.

Ford chairman and managing director Ian McAllister announced savings of between 5% and 8% on cars purchased at www.fordjourney.com at this week’s British Motor Show. Vauxhall chairman and managing director Nick Reilly is offering an average saving of 3.5% and even more for special limited offers.

In the meantime, Ford has warned that it expects to incur significant losses this year from its European businesses, following a period of substantial restructuring, currency losses and volatile demand.

The company’s European arm does not expect to break even by the year end although it anticipates an improvement in operating results in 2001.
