It's officially now okay to eat a hot dog outside of a fairground. We scour the country for the best varieties in the land.

Ze Über Ding

Who: Herman Ze German, London

What: Herman Ze German is an unapologetic ode to the home of wurst. Sausages are made in the Black Forest of Baden-Württemberg, and the full menu includes Bockwurst, Bratwurst and Chilli Beef.

But what fan of spice could resist a name and concept such as ze Über Ding? It includes Chilli Wurst, jalapeños, mustard, onions and pommes in a roll.

The Bandog

Who: The Flying Dog, Edinburgh

What: Say no to deep-fried Mars bars and snatch up this treat after a long stroll along Leith Walk. The eatery offers the classics alongside the Bandog – a lighter variety featuring yoghurt, cucumber, mint and lettuce.

Where: 24 Henderson Street

The Dogfather

Who: Hogwurst, Cardiff

What: Almost a pizza, almost a hot dog, The Dogfather features tomato marinara sauce, melted cheese, grilled pepperoni and diced onions and peppers. It’s topped with bashed up Dorito shards because…why not?

Bonus point: It’s BYOB.

Where: 56 North Road

The Haba

Who: Underdogs, Bristol

What: In typical Bristol fashion, Underdogs is all about using fresh, local ingredients. It pops up at street food events and festivals, while the caterer is also available to hire for corporate events and parties.

The Haba takes the idea of goodness to the next level and is made of a vegan frankfurter, bean chilli and hot pink onions.

The Wall Street

Who: Dogs N Dough, Manchester

What: A true New York-inspired delicacy featuring sauerkraut, Coney mustard, pretzels and Swiss cheese. This is just one of many creatively named dogs available at the Mancunian establishment, which also serves up pizza and cocktails.
